Basic Classification of Shoes by Material
To wash a pair of shoes well and satisfy customers, you first need to understand the basic theoretical knowledge of shoe washing. Among them, the most important is the classification of shoes. There are many different classification standards for shoes, such as by function, which can be divided into sports shoes, daily shoes, rain shoes, etc.; by material, which can be divided into leather shoes, cloth shoes, plastic shoes, etc.
Based on the actual operation of the store and the common shoe materials, Gao Li Jie has formulated a new classification standard, which is more convenient for us to provide subsequent cleaning and maintenance services for shoes. Mei Jie Jia mainly divides all shoes into the following nine categories:
1.Mesh shoes
Mainly refer to sports shoes with mesh material on the upper part. When cleaning, you can use the high-pressure water gun of the X6 shoe washing machine to clean it, which will greatly improve the cleaning efficiency and ensure a high degree of cleanliness after cleaning.

2.Canvas shoes
These shoes usually have a thick rubber sole and are made of canvas material on the upper part. Generally, they can be cleaned using our commercial shoe washing machine.
3.Suede Shoes
Suede shoes refer to a general term for leather shoes with hairy surfaces, opposite to smooth leather shoes. Leather can be divided into top-layer leather and second-layer leather, and suede leather is a type of second-layer leather, while the sandblasted leather below is a type of top-layer leather. Suede leather has a strong velvety feel, while the surface of sandblasted leather may also have a slight velvety feel (not easily noticeable), but it is overall smooth (or with a litchi pattern).
5.Microfiber
Also known as microfiber leather, it has excellent fold resistance comparable to that of genuine leather, making it quite durable. However, its manufacturing cost is relatively high.
6.Suede
Suede is created by buffing the surface of leather to smooth out the fibers and texture, revealing a tidy and uniform appearance. As suede is made from top-grain leather, it offers excellent durability and water resistance, making it relatively pricier, often more than twice the cost of nubuck leather.
7.Pearly Finish
The surface of pearly leather is coated with a layer of resin mixed with pearlescent or metal powder, creating a shiny appearance.
It mainly comes in three types: water-based pearly, oil-based pearly, and holographic pearly. Water-based pearly has a relatively dull gloss, while oil-based pearly has a brighter gloss. Holographic pearly, on the other hand, displays a rainbow of colors when exposed to sunlight.
8.Lacquered Finish
Lacquered leather, also known as patent leather, refers to a type of leather processed to have a shiny and sturdy surface. A layer of lacquer is sprayed onto the leather to enhance its gloss. Lacquered leather mainly comes in two types: water-based and oil-based.
Water-based lacquered leather is thicker, has a rougher feel, and is generally more affordable. Oil-based lacquered leather is sturdy and durable, but it tends to be more expensive. One downside of lacquered leather shoes is that they are prone to scratches when the surface is rubbed.
9.Nubuck
Nubuck refers to a general term for leather that has been milled or sanded to create a fine, velvety surface. When washing this type of shoe, excessive water usage can result in color bleeding or clustering on the shoe's surface. Therefore, it is recommended to dry clean or brush these shoes as much as possible.
Based on these nine different types of shoe surfaces, the choice of whether to use a machine or hand wash should be made. Additionally, different shoes often have different common issues, which require targeted cleaning and care plans.
